How to survive on nothing in a fashionable city
How to Survive on Nothing in a Fashionable City
Living in a big city or even a small town can be very tough on your wallet. As a single girl in the big city, you may find that your wants often take over your needs. Now, there is a difference for those who only wish to be stylish. Just to clarify, style is that of which is in and fashion is of your own. This article is about being fashionable with little cash. The best ways to be fashionable on a budget are thrifting, scrounging and searching.
Let’s start with your fashionable closet. Most people will read a magazine and become quickly obsessed with the latest items in fashion. The best cure for this illness is to go through your closet. First you must pull out anything you can sell. Do not limit yourself to only your closet; you should look through your books, movies, electronics and collectables. Determining what is to be sold is easier if you put it all in a pile. This pile should be made over the course of a few days. After you have completed your pile you should come back in two to three days with a cold drink or snack because you may be here for a while. Begin to look through your items and decide if you really still want the things or if you would rather trade them in for something else.
When you have made your definite pile of cast offs the next step is joining an online auction site such as www.eBay.com . List all your items on this site that are profitable through auction and watch your money grow! Listing your items can at times be confusing but remember that you can always read selling tips on the site. Another reminder is to make sure you set your shipping to cover the costs of the product because if your item sells for a small amount you may not make any money because you will use it to cover shipping.
Next you should find a second hand store that gives you money for your used items. Stores such as Plato’s Closet are very handy for these types of adventures. Plato’s closet is a store that takes brands such as American Eagle and Abercrombie and Fitch, purchased within that year. If you look online you will most likely find many similar stores in your neighborhood. These stores are great for getting rid of items that are not great sellers on auction sites.
Once you have taken your clothing to a second hand store see what is left in your pile. If you have another second hand store available try your luck with it to make a few more dollars. When you have sold everything that will sell then you should re-evaluate the situation and see if you‘d like to keep anything that was unsellable. If not then you should try to make a trade of these things with friends or family or take them to Goodwill. Remember keeping these items is just going to clutter your closet because you really didn’t want to keep them anyways!
Now that you have collected the cash you made into your bank account, piggy bank or vintage Fendi bag box under your bed, you have some options. The first option you will have is to take it all to a luxury store and walk out with a dinky little carrier bag that really doesn’t satisfy your need to shop. The second option you have is to shop for smaller priced items. The best ways to get the most for your small amount of money are www.ebay.com, consignment shops and vintage shops.
EBay is a great resource for those who want to find rare or inexpensive items. This site also can be very addicting so one should always take precautions when buying. One of the best things about the site is that you can watch up to two hundred items at once so that you can determine which items are best to purchase. The site specializes in many different things. Luxury goods and vintage items are perfect for the fashionista. The best sections to shop in are the vintage areas such as vintage Louis Vuitton. Often sellers are able to give you lower prices than regular merchandise because the items are a bit older and maybe have been used more. Although these items are older and well used they often are more fun because they have past experience and have personality.
Consignment shops are the next spot to shop on our list. Consignment shops sometimes are easy to find and sometimes difficult to find. The best way to locate them in your town is to do an online search. Often your friends will not know where they are and if they don’t know then don’t tell because this will be your secret hot spot for cheap clothes! If you are lucky you will find a store that is higher class. Often times after searching around the area you will find a location that resells designer clothes. These can be great places to find pieces from designers like Diane Von Furstenburg, Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen. Most of the consumers who can actually afford to buy these items on a regular basis also get rid of these items on a regular basis, so keep your eyes open for consignment shops!
Vintage shops can be another place to find great items. Have you ever noticed or heard your grandmother say “Everything in fashion comes back around”? Well this is one hundred percent true and vintage shops can get your foot in the door on “new” fashions. Vintage stores like consignment stores also should be kept secret so that you will not have to fight with a friend over who gets to buy the 1960’s YSL suit. Looking online is the best way to find these places. Most are stores that buy out estate sale clothing and accessories. These kinds of places can be exactly what you need to freshen up your closet collection. Just be careful that the purchase you make can be dry cleaned and will not fall apart while you are wearing it!
Now that you have new items in your closet you should give yourself a round of applause. Not only did you get rid of items but you replaced these items for practically free! This is a three step process that you can go through every season; find, sell, shop.

Surviving on the vintage
If you've followed my blog then you will by now know that I am feeling a bit abandoned by all my designers. Well in a few moments I have tried to come up with a plan to attack these feelings of despair.
Here's the plan people: We are going to vintage shop like crazy!
I know you are wondering where to do such a thing and actually find what you want but don't worry because Mandi knows all!
- Log on to http://www.ebay.com/
- In the search bar type in a designer of your choice such as Valentino, Gucci, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Salvatore Ferragamo, Dior, Louboutin, Balenciaga, YSL etc.
- In the categories section select vintage
- Set the price bar to lowest price first
- Scrounge to see what you can find!
Most likely on a good day I will find two or three vintage Fendi bags in perfect condition. On a bad day I will find only one pair of Louboutins I can even afford with a broken heel. The biggest part of shopping on this site is to read every detail. Do not assume that the product is real unless it says 100% authentic and do not buy if the shipping is insanely high.
WARNING!!!--THIS SITE IS HIGHLY EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE AND YOU WILL WANT TO BUY EVERY DESIGNER ITEM YOU SEE.... remember you can't buy it all in one sitting because then what will you buy tomorrow or next week even :)

Left alone in a designer closet
Where are we going and who should we follow?
Right now I believe that we are in a state of fashion emergency! I keep looking and looking but the designers of the past have left us! Of course Louis Vuitton is dead but come on did Valentino really have to retire and did McQueen really have to leave us in the time we need him most?
I don't know about the rest of you but I am feeling quite abandoned!
It is strange to think that we could even feel this way since most of us never even had the luxury of making the top designers' acquaintance...
Don't get me wrong I love the new lines on runway this season but will it ever really take the place of our beloved fashion houses?

Denim Outcast
It seems that denim has been thrown out in the form of pants. These last few months you've seen it in vests, jackets, and much more but not so many of us have decided to cover our legs with it anymore. What's taken over you may ask? Black fitted tuxedo pants, black pants that are tapered, shortened and covered with zippers. Black has never been bigger! As far as Im concerned I dont even want to wear denim pants because my black pants have me so spoiled. My favorite are a pair I accidentally ran accross last fall on a random confusion in Target. Jonathon Saunders for Target Black Tuxedo pants; they're the cheapest, best pants I'll ever wear!
>>>I believe that no one should ever spend a massive amount on clothes. I myself like to buy marc jacobs dresses and boots from alloy.com . In case you dont know about alloy.com its one of the best websites for up to date shoes! They seem to produce look a like runway shoes within weeks of the premier of the real thing! You should definately check them out they're always running sales too. www.alloy.com
Anyways back to the subject denim has for the first time found itself an outcast in the pants division. Now dont get me wrong I love my Marc Jacobs denim motorcycle jacket, but the marc jacobs jeans I've been trying to sell on ebay forever just will NOT sell! The best thing to do if you are looking for black pants is to search for black liquid leggings or black strech straight leg knit pants.( mind you everything you wear is knitwear now days) If you're wondering wear to look check out ::::Target thats where my black liquid leggings came from as well as my black tuxedo pants. Also h&m has $30 black knit pants with ankle zippers. I just purchased these from the Pittsburgh H&M last month(they have many different varieties of black fitted pants of different lengths and styles) Tory Burch has many different types of black skinnies in knit and leather check out these leather Tory Burch leggings $995.00
Tory Burch has also introduced camo again which I personally love since she gives it a whole new look! To see the pants go to http://www.toryburch.com/toryburch/company/lookBook_Jul09.jsp?icCategory=cat160008&icSort and for black pants and leggings check out: http://www.toryburch.com/toryburch/browse/subCategory.jsp?icParent=subCategory&icCategory=cat160004&hidePageNums=true&showAll=true&selectedSize=&icStartPage=1&icSort=
The bottom line is that black pants are rockin this blogger and many others! If you're wondering the best way to wear them I suggest with short denim dresses, to offset the usual since one usually sees denim as the pant material, With large frumpy sweaters and black riding boots, printed dresses and black cardigans and I'm really into hippy shirts with brown leather biker boots.
Oh and if you're really lucky you'll get your hands on a black quilted Balmain jacket :) Good luck with that!

Intro To Fibers off your back
Fashion today changes so slowly. People arent ready to observe and take in what they are seeing. Runway is always new art but so many people are quick to say its irrelevant and write it off. Not this blogger. I see the potential in any clothing thrown my way. I hope that the readers of this blog feel the same thats why I am making this, for the true fashion lovers. Fashion is the fastest growing industry. It will not stop as long as there are people who need to cover their backs.
Remember Fashion is an art its a way of saying who you are, whats on your mind and the past you've seen before you even open your mouth. Dont ever waste a day of fashion.
